Here at Cargobike Cult we always keep an eye out for interesting and innovative ideas about doing business on cargobikes.
Today, the Courier-Journal in Louiville, Kentucky ran a story about Ian Ritchie who operates his gourmet soup delivery business, called soupBycycle, on a Surly Big Dummy cargobike and trailer.
Ritchie’s weekly menu always features a meaty, vegetarian and vegan soup and customers can order via phone, e-mail, or the soupBycycle website. The menu this week: mushroom barley, gazpacho and smoked salmon chowder. Customers can order one bowl or become regular “soupscribers.”
There are several other U.S. cities where soup delivery cargobike businesses have sprung up. There is, for example, SoupCycle in Portland, Oregon.
And there’s also the Soup Peddler in Austin, Texas.

These all sound like tasty cargobike ventures, but nothing beats this guy in Denmark selling sushi from a cargobike.

Hey Ian,
good to hear from you. I really love the concept of “soup-scriptions”. It’s a bit out of my way, but one of these days I’m gonna figure out a way to get a bowl. The Bluegrass Chili sounds mighty tasty!
Cheers,
Matt
